NSJ Tennis Ladder Operation & Prizes
![]()
Operation of the Active/Challenge Ladder
- There is
no cost to play in the ladder.
- The ladder is currently for
singles matches only.
- There will be a separate ladder for men and for women (women may also play in the men’s ladder if desired). Juniors are encouraged to play in the ladder as well.
- The initial placement of people onto ladder positions will be based upon last year's results. New players will be placed randomly on ladder positions following the players from the
previous year (or at the director's discretion).
- Players entering the ladder after the start of the season will be placed at the bottom position of the ladder (or at a higher position at the director’s discretion).
- Matches will be scheduled every two weeks. The date, time, and location of your scheduled biweekly match are at the mutual convenience of you and your opponent.
- In
addition to your scheduled matches, you are encouraged to
play as many extra matches as possible by challenging anyone within
4 positions above you on the ladder. If you are in one of the top 4 positions on the ladder, you may challenge anyone within 4 positions below on the ladder. You can play anyone on the ladder and earn points, but you can’t overtake their position on the ladder
if they are not within the legal challenge range. However, a match win over someone higher than 4 positions above you on the ladder allows you to move up a maximum of 4 positions.
- The listing of your next scheduled opponent will be emailed to you
every other Monday.
- Please email
Director of Tennis by 8:00pm on
Sunday at the end of the 2-week period. Please provide the set scores in the email.
- Points are accumulated independent of the ladder position for each match played. The winner of each match played (scheduled or
extra) will receive 5 points and the loser will receive 3 points. The point totals will be posted every 2 weeks.
- If the lower ladder position player wins the match, they take over the position held by the winner; the loser then slides down one position on the ladder.
- The biweekly scheduled match must be played and recorded by the deadline or the player responsible for the match not being played will be declared the loser by default.
If neither player is responsible for the match not being played then both players move down the ladder by 15% of the number of players.
Prizes
- The top two ladder positions and point holders at the end of the season will receive a prize.
