NORTH ST. JOHN'S SWIM AND TENNIS CLUB, INC.
CLUB RULES
The following rules apply to everyone on the premises of North St. John’s Swim and Tennis Club, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as the “Club”) including the Board Members, general members, Staff, guests of the members, non-member swim or dive team participants, contractors, salespeople, etc., whether on the premises by invitation or not. These rules provide protection, safety, and sanitary operations of all Club users. Parents are responsible for informing their children to observe these rules and to obey instruction of the Club Manager and Staff. Failure to comply with these rules will be considered sufficient cause for immediate suspension of Club privileges for the offending member, and can result in termination of membership.
I. GENERAL RULES
A. Responsibility and Authority of Club Management:
The Staff (managers and lifeguards) have complete authority over the pool, tennis courts and Club grounds. The Staff has the authority to refuse admission or immediately eject any member or guest from the Club property for violation of any Club rule.
Three Strikes You’re Out: If a child is misbehaving there will be three steps of discipline.
1. First Offense the child will be given a verbal warning or seated on a bench outside the office for a period not to exceed ½ hour.
2. Second Offense the child will be seated on a bench outside the office for a period not to exceed ½ hour and the Staff will inform the parent of the problem.
3. Third Offense the child will be asked to leave the pool grounds, parents will be called to pick the child up, and a report will be filed in the office.
*Depending on the offense, suspension will be an option and may or may not follow the three-strikes discipline procedure.
If there is a continuing problem with a child, the Board may be asked to take appropriate and immediate action. Again, parents please remember you are responsible for the actions of your children and your guests.
B. The Club will not be responsible for loss or damage to personal property.
C. The cost of any Club property damaged will be charged to the responsible member.
D. The Club assumes no responsibility for any accidents or injuries.
E. Children under 18 are not permitted in the pool during adult swim and are not allowed to sit on the side of the pool during adult swim.
F. Members are responsible for the actions of their guests and are to ensure that their guests are informed of and abide by the rules, and obey the instructions of managers and lifeguards.
H. The office in the pool area is for the admittance of Staff or Board Members only.
I. If experience necessitates changes or additions to these rules, such modifications may be made immediately.
II. CLUB HOURS
A. Club hours vary, but generally the Club will be open from 12:00 noon to 9:00 P.M. daily, including holidays. Hours vary when public school in session.
B. At the discretion of Club Management, the pool may be closed due to emergencies including, but not limited to, service demand times. During inclement weather the pool and surrounding area will be cleared for 30 minutes from the last sound of thunder, and the pool grounds will be cleared for 1 hour from the sighting of lightening.
C. Swim team meets and practices, dive meets and practices, as well as swim and dive lessons, will be posted on the premises. The baby pool will be open subject to the availability of lifeguards.
D. During home swim and dive meets, pool hours may vary. The pool will reopen after swim and dive meets.
E. The diving well will be closed during dive lessons and warm-ups for home dive meets.
F. The dates of evening events (Family Night, Adult Nights, Teen Nights, dive meets, swim meets, etc.) will be posted 2 weeks prior to the event. The pool may close 1 hour before the event.
G. In addition to normal Club hours, the tennis courts are available to members and their guests before the pool opens each day and during the months the pool is closed. Since the tennis court gate will be locked with a combination lock, any member desiring to use the courts during this time must obtain the combination to the lock from the Club office or the Director of Tennis. The gates leading from the tennis courts to the swimming pool area will not be open during this time.
III. ADMISSION TO THE CLUB
A. Members
1. Members and their dependants (as defined by the By-Laws) are required to have photo IDs taken for member identification. The ID card must be presented at the Club office upon entry. There will be a $2.00 fee to replace lost ID cards.
B. Child Care Providers
1. Members have the option of selecting one individual per family designated as a childcare provider. This childcare provider will have full access to Club facilities while performing childcare duties. There will be an additional $50 fee per season.
C. Guests
1. Guests must be accompanied by a Club member in good standing. The member must enter his own name and his guest's name and residence in the guest register before granted access to the Club. Any member who brings a guest without registering and paying the appropriate fee may have his or her membership terminated.
2. A non-member, living in the membership area, may only use the pool as a guest eight (8) times per year. The Club office will keep a record of the number of visits per guest.
3. Members who provide full time daycare for children who are related to them may purchase a seasonal guest pass for $250.00 per child. Those children may use the Club facilities Monday – Friday between the hours of 12 and 5 PM.
4. Members are permitted to have parties at the Club for up to 30 guests without Board approval. For over 30 guests, the member must contact the Club Manager who will coordinate schedule and staffing before issuing a request to the Board for their recommendation. The member will be notified by the Club Manager of the Boards decision within 2 weeks of a request.
5. Members having a party at the Club are required to leave a list of the names of their guests at the front desk. All guests must be prepaid before the date of the party. If a guest on the list does not attend the party, the member will be reimbursed for that guest.
D. Club Guest Rates
1. Senior citizens (60 years and older) – Free up to the 8 allotted visits.
2. Adults and Children - $5.00 on weekdays, $6.00 on holidays and weekends. After 6:00 p.m., adult and children guest fees are $3 on weekdays. There will not be a reduction of guest fees after 6:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
3. Houseguest is defined as a guest who is entertained overnight or longer at the member's home. A houseguest will use one guest privilege for each such uninterrupted visit. Houseguests will receive a special weekly rate of $20.00 per person or $50.00 per family.
4. Guests only playing Tennis will be charged the same fees as Club guests - $5.00 on weekdays and $6.00 on holidays and weekends, but the fees will not be reduced after 6:00 p.m.
IV. SAFETY
A. Members shall not use the pool unless it is officially open and the lifeguards are on duty and seated in the lifeguard chair. This also applies to the baby pool with a lifeguard stationed by the baby pool. Guards are responsible for opening the pool at the appropriately scheduled time.
B. Intoxicated and/or disruptive persons shall not be allowed on Club premises.
C. Running, pushing, wrestling, or undue disturbance will not be permitted on Club property.
D. The throwing of children or adults in the pool is not permitted.
E. Glass containers will not be allowed on the Club premises.
F. Swimming will be permitted in the diving area only when the diving boards and slide are not being used and are closed by the lifeguard on duty. A lifeguard is required to be in the dive well guard chair any time the dive well is in use.
G. Only one person at a time is permitted on the diving boards or sliding board. No double bouncing or multiple bouncing on the dive boards is allowed.
H. Jumping is permitted from the edge of the pool anywhere. Diving is only permitted in the dive well. Only simple front dives are allowed from the edge of the dive well when the boards are closed. All other dives including jack knives and can-openers are permitted only off the diving boards.
I. Swim fins and breathing tubes are permitted in the pool. Sponge-type balls and approved personal floatation devices are allowed in the pool during non-crowded conditions. All other balls or toys including surf mats will not be permitted in the pool.
J. Personal flotation devices including arm floats and noodles will be permitted in the pool. Parents are responsible to be within arm’s length of a child wearing a personal floatation device. The Club assumes no responsibility for any accidents related to the use of a personal floatation device.
K. No chairs are allowed on the pool deck.
L. The Club is a non-smoking facility. Cigarettes and other tobacco products are permitted outside the fenced in area only and away from the club entrance.
M. Children under twelve (12) years of age must be supervised by an adult or responsible caregiver while on the Club premises.
N. Only children six (6) years of age and under may use the baby pool.
N. It is recommended that alcohol not be consumed on Club premises at any time, except during officially sanctioned social activities.
O. All debris must be deposited in the appropriate containers provided for that purpose.
V. HEALTH
A. Pets of any kind are not permitted inside the Club area.
B. It is recommended that showers be taken before entering the pool. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to monitor the time that their children are using the showers in order to prevent excessive water use and flooding of the floor.
C. No member can enter the pool area, or permit a child to do so, while wearing bandages or suffering from an infection or communicable disease.
D. Babies with swim diapers (no cloth diapers) will be allowed only in the baby pool. Children not toilet trained are not allowed in the main pool.
E. Nose blowing, spitting and bodily elimination is prohibited while in the pool.
VI. TENNIS COURT RULES AND REGULATIONS
A. Scheduling
1. Members are free to use the tennis courts any time they have reserved them or on a first-come, first-served basis, when the courts are not reserved. Members may have guests on the courts, but are responsible for the guest's behavior while on Club property. Any guest who uses the tennis courts during hours the pool is open must pay the guest fee specified in the Club rules. All guests must be signed in at the Club office when the swimming area is open.
2. Members may reserve a tennis court for use during the summer season when the Clubhouse is open. Each member may sign up for one, 1-1/2 hour period, during the seven-day period following the day the reservation is made. After the 1-1/2 hour period has been completed the member may sign up for another period if no one else is waiting to use the court.
3. When signing up for a court in advance, all persons who will be playing must be listed.
4. All players who reserve a court must begin play within 10 minutes after the assigned time or relinquish the courts if members are waiting to play.
B. Attire
1. All persons using the courts shall wear non-marking tennis shoes.
2. All persons using the courts shall be clothed in suitable attire at all times, including tops for men.
C. Use of Courts
Courts are available for use by any member or guest under the following conditions:
1. Members are reminded that guests using any Club facility are subject to the rules herein.
2. Members and guests age 16 and over, have preference for courts every weekday after 5:00 P.M. and on Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays. Children may use the courts during this period of time but must relinquish the court after the game in progress is complete if a member or guest age 16 and over desires to play.
3. Tennis courts are to be used for tennis only. Bicycles, skateboards, skates, or motor vehicles are not permitted to be operated on or near the courts. Sitting on the nets is also prohibited.
4. Tennis lessons for a fee shall not be given by members or non-members on NSJ tennis courts without prior approval of the Vice President for Operations and the Club Manager.
5. The Tennis Pro may reserve only one (1) court for tennis instruction except for Club sponsored events.
6. All of the tennis courts may occasionally be reserved for Club sponsored events.
7. Playing members and spectators must keep the courts and surrounding area free from trash and other debris by using receptacles in the area provided. Trash removal service is provided only during the summer months (Memorial Day to Labor Day). Any members using the courts during the months other than the summer months, must take trash and debris with them when they leave the Club premises.
D. Behavior
1. Unruly actions on or near the courts, or misuse of the tennis courts as judged by the Staff, the Director of Tennis, or the President, are cause for dismissal from the Club premises for the day.
